This year’s May 1 had extra special meaning for us because it coincides with the countdown to ETF Congress that will take place from May 24 – May 27 in Budapest, under the slogan All aboard! Destination: Fair Transport!
Every year workers around the world celebrate Labour Day, or International Workers’ Day, to mark the strength and victories of the union movement. For the ETF, it’s a day to celebrate our transport workers and their strength through the power of trade unionism – together we can and will achieve a fair future for our workers. The ETF vows to continue to work hard and fight on behalf of transport workers across Europe to achieve this destination! A destination without exploitation, where decent work and working conditions are guaranteed for all transport workers across Europe!
In honour of Labour Day, Frank Moreels, ETF President, and Livia Spera, ETF General Secretary share some thoughts about trade unionism, unity and solidarity, teasing the guiding principles of our upcoming Congress:

“My hopes for the future are based on experiences of the past”, stated our president, Frank Moreels, in his joint ETF video message on the occasion of Workers’ Day. He continued: “I am proud of what we have achieved as unions. We have a strong social security system, we have pensions schemes that are okay, so I am hopeful for the future, when we were able to realise such good things for the workers, we can continue to do so.”

With high confidence in the future of transport trade unions, our General Secretary, Livia Spera, is looking forward to having our unions in Budapest for the ETF 6th Ordinary Congress, where we will gather altogether “to define a very strong strategy for the five years to come. We are fighting all together for Fair Transport.”
