Tuesday, 28 June, the ETF will demonstrate for Fair Transport in Lyon alongside transport unions and thousands of transport workers.
Decent jobs shortage, lay-offs, pay cuts, slashed funding all while the cost of living explodes: transport workers have had enough!
Europe will be facing a very “hot” summer, with industrial action kicking off everywhere.
Transport workers are taking action, it’s time Europe’s politicians heard their voices loud and clear.
Our demands:
Invest in transport workers
> Better jobs, pay & conditions
Fix the shortage of decent jobs
> Give transport workers a fair future
Stop liberalisation & privatisation
> Public transport in public hands
Make logistics work for workers
> Logistics = essential for countries’ supply chains
Why 28 June?
‘Connecting Europe Days’ will take place in Lyon from 28 to 30 June. The event will bring together politicians, industry representatives and the European Commission to discuss the future of transport… without transport workers’ representatives.
The European Commission forgot to invite the ETF, the voice of over 5 million transport workers in Europe. A stark contrast with their declaration that “workers are transport’s most valuable asset”.
The shortage of decent jobs is causing major disruptions in aviation, road transport, and shipping and will soon heavily affect other transport modes. Working conditions in transport have been deteriorating so much that the sector is not attractive enough to workers. And yet, transport workers are left out of key conversations like Connecting Europe Days.
It is high time for politicians to act, and there is only one way to do this, through close involvement of transport workers’ trade unions.
ETF will be bringing transport workers’ voices to Lyon – it’s time for Europe to deliver Fair Transport!
