Just Yesterday, October 23, ETF Seafarers and Dockers wrapped up the closing event of their joint EU-funded project for a stronger and more sustainable European maritime sector. A group of union officials from both shipping and ports followed high-level training sessions on important economic changes and trends in their sectors. Academics from Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands and France gave lectures about the increased integration of the maritime supply chain, global shipping alliances, foreign competition and investments with transport, digitalisation and automation, environmental challenges, and globalization while also highlighting the importance of communication and storytelling.
This final seminar was dedicated to identifying common priorities and developing joint activities and strategies for the coming years. The participants of the training sessions were joined by all members of the respective steering committees. ETF Dockers and Seafarers finished by agreeing on a shared action plan and committing to systematically continue cooperation through joint meetings and campaigns both on a European and an international level. This event was the first of many joint meetings to come!
