Steering the future of women transport workers

10 Jan 2014

100114_Women's conference 2014Transport workers with an opinion on gender issues in unions still have the chance to get involved in the upcoming women’s conference online. The conference website, live now at www.itfwomen2014.org, has all the information delegates need to participate – whether they can take part in person or not.

The conference, which will run on 27 and 28 January in Delhi, India, takes place once every four years, and gives workers the chance to contribute to ITF policy and the action programme for 2015-18.

This is the first time that women transport workers have had a dedicated website for conference. The site follows on from the successful regional conference sites created for the Asia Pacific, Arab World, Africa and Latin America and Caribbean regional conferences.

ITF women transport workers’ coordinator Alison McGarry said: “I’m looking forward to hearing the fantastic debates, diverging opinions, and powerful stories of women transport workers from across the world. Now that we have a website for conference, we can hear from workers everywhere, and get their opinions of what the ITF should do from 2015-18. Whether they have an opinion on how to organise more women, a story about ending violence against women, our role as users of public services, or our role as leaders, we want to hear it!”

For live news as it happens, don’t forget to bookmark the women’s conference page and check back regularly on 28 and 29 January.
